… A Minute Meditation

September 14, 2001

“What can we do to accomplish the works of God?” the Jews asked Christ.  “The work of God,” Christ told them, “is that you believe in the one He sent” (Jn 6:28-29). What does He mean?

By faith we open our minds to Christ’s revelation and our hearts to His love.  We become temples of the Holy Spirit who works in us and transforms us so we rise above our sin and selfishness and love, as He loves us.  We cannot do this on our own.  We are “unprofitable servants.”  God begins the work of our sanctification and brings it to completion. God transforms us so we become partakers of His divine nature and love as He loves us.  Our holiness, like our faith, is “the work of God.”  We  should cooperate with Him by removing the obstacles our sins put in His way so He can fashion us in the image of His Son.
