July 1, 2010, Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.” (Psalm 66)
READINGS:1. Isaiah 66:10-14c
2. Galatians 6:14-18
3. Gospel of Luke 10:1-12, 17-20
REFLECTION: Joy is the theme of the readings for this Sunday. Isaiah tells everyone to “exult, exult.” The psalm says, “Shout joyfully to God, all you on earth.” Paul tells his listeners that nothing can bother him for he is of peace with the Lord. The message is clear to us: rejoice in God’s love, in the freedom it brings to us, in the promise it holds for us.
PRAYER: Lord God, guide our hearts and our choices as we enter this summer season. Help us to use your gifts of time and leisure well and keep us safe and healthy. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday:
Since we recently celebrated the birthday of Our Country, pray today for peace in our families and country.
Tuesday:
Pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary today for world peace. Try to get some family member(s) to pray with you.
Wednesday:
Continue to enter into the summer spirit of lightheartedness. Enjoy a family cookout. Invite someone you don’t ordinarily invite.
Thursday:
Just practice today sitting back for a minute and do nothing at all. Just enjoy being alive and being loved by God.
Friday:
Do something today by yourself or with others to support all people’s rights to be free.
Saturday:
Give money or food to the food pantry today to assist the needy.
PRAYER: Lord God and giver of all freedom, we thank you for the singular and great blessing that you have bestowed upon our nation: a life of liberty. Amen.
