June 27, 2010, Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Whoever … keeps looking back is unfit for the reign of God.” (Luke 9:62)
READINGS:1. 1 Kings 19:16, 19-21
2. Galatians 5:1, 13-18
3. Gospel of Luke 9:51-62
REFLECTION: There are reasons we find it hard to persevere. Our society is filled with messages that say the opposite. We are a “throw away” society. To go against all this takes a special dedication. To persevere requires a person with vision of what life can be for himself and others.
PRAYER: Lord God, guide our hearts and our choices as we enter this summer season. Help us to use your gifts of time and leisure well and keep us safe and healthy. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday:
Discuss with your family today what things and customs are worth preserving and worth persevering to keep.
Tuesday:
Take time today to pray for the leadership in our Church.
Wednesday:
Pray the Mysteries of Light for world peace.
Thursday:
Reflect on (or discuss with your family) some possibilities for goals you want to reach this summer.
Friday:
Take time this week to reflect on the political goals that are being presented to us these days. Where do you stand on these?
Saturday:
Reflect on the Scripture reading from this past Sunday.
PRAYER: Father, help us to develop self-confidence and commitment. Help us to understand what we are called to do, and give us the strength to do it. Grant us the grace of perseverance.
