“By God’s favor I am what I am.” (1 Corinthians 15:10)

READINGS:
1. Isaiah 6:1-2a, 3-8
2. 1 Corinthians 15:1-11
3. Gospel of Luke 5:1-11

REFLECTION:  Here we are again in that in-between time of the year.  Christmas is over.  Spring is still far off and Easter means living through six weeks of Lent first.  This is the time when we can be most open to the Lord, because we need his support more than usual.  Yes, this time of year we need two senses:  a good sense of humor and the sense to turn to the Lord and say, “By your grace I am what I am.  Keep me in your care, Lord.”

PRAYER:  Lord, so often we get down on ourselves and worry that we are not good enough.  We turn over our faults to you.  We know that you can make up for them.  Touch us and heal us.  Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

Monday:
Pray today to the Lord to take care of your shortcomings.

Tuesday:
Do something today that will exhibit a “sense of humor”; enjoy a comic movie, television show, or book with the family.

Wednesday:
To perk the family up during this time, make a special dinner dessert.  Light some candles, pray for peace.

Thursday:
Think today of the shut-ins who probably feel the winter slowness more than you.  Plan to visit a shut-in, bring a friend with you.

Friday:
During this time of mid-winter, pray especially for the homeless and those groups and organizations that serve them.  As a family send a letter of support and encouragement to an organization in your area that serves the poor.

Saturday:
Pray the Glorious Mysteries of the rosary today to honor Our Lady.

PRAYER:
Lord, God, reach out your hand and touch us with your strength.  Assure us of your strength.  Assure us of your presence.  Turn our feelings from fear to confidence.  Amen.
