November 15, 2009, 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“When you see these things happening, you will know that the Son of Man is near, even at the door.” (Mark 13)

READINGS:
1. Daniel 12:1-3
2. Hebrews 10:11-14, [15-18,] 19-25
3. Gospel of Mark 13:24-32

REFLECTION:  Tones of gloom and doom sound frequently through the readings of these November Sundays.  Jesus tells us that the world is not merely going to come to an end; it is to be transformed.  The world will be made over according to God’s vision.  Jesus teaches that the end of the world is not so much a sudden catastrophe as a triumph of his kingdom.

PRAYER:  Lord, be with us in the difficult times of living.  Stand beside us and make us strong.  Give us courage and hope and keep us always in your care.  Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

Monday:
During this time of reflecting on end things and preparing for Advent, we reflect on the need for peace in the world.  Think of an action your family can do toward world peace.

Tuesday:
Enjoy the beauties of the world today.  Take a walk in the woods or a car ride through the country.  Praise God for our freedom.

Wednesday:
Recall a time when life was difficult.  How did you get through it?  Do you usually include the Lord in your efforts to survive in a crisis?

Thursday:
This week’s readings are drawing the liturgical year to a close.  The new year for the Church will begin soon with Advent.  Prepare for this by gathering information regarding Advent and the new gospel readings of Year C, which will be Luke’s Gospel.

Friday:
As your neighborhood and/or church prepares for Thanksgiving, be sure your family is involved in some work of charity for this feast.

Saturday:
Pray the rosary today with the family for world peace.

PRAYER:
Lord, your Goodness lives forever and lasts until the end of time.  May we never forget your blessings and tell our children about how you have graced us.  Amen.
