November 8, 2009, 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
“She gave from her want, all that she had to live on.” (Mark 12:44)
READINGS:1. 1 Kings 17:10-16
2. Hebrews 9:24-28
3. Gospel of Mark 12:38-44
REFLECTION: People sacrifice for another and discover, as a result, more love than they knew they had. When we give, it should be because we want to share our joy and happiness with others, because we want to show we care, because we want to unite with that person in a bond of exchange.
PRAYER: Father, let us realize that all we have is a gift from you. We do so want to give what we have received. Help us be like free flowing water which carries your gifts. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday:
Reflect today on what gifts you and your family have that you can share with others.
Tuesday:
Have a special family meal tonight and celebrate the gifts of those who prepared it.
Wednesday:
The home is noted as “the domestic church.” Reflect today on your home as church, of course not the building.
Thursday:
Pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the rosary today with your family. Pray for peace in the world.
Friday:
During November we remember in special ways those who have died. Pray especially today for your loved ones who have died.
Saturday:
Give to the needy in some way today, either time, talent, or treasure.
PRAYER:
Father, bless our efforts as we once again try to reach out in love. Give us courage to finish up the good intentions you have already begun in us. Amen.
