“The man who feeds on me will have life because of me.” (John 6:57)
READINGS:1. Proverbs 9:1-6
2. Ephesians 5:15-20
3. Gospel of John 6:51-58
REFLECTION: Our lives are filled with celebrations. This summer we have already had Memorial Day picnics and Fourth of July fireworks. In some mysterious way, celebrations help us to feel confident and secure, as though we’ve done the right thing, squared everything away. When we celebrate, we pay attention to our blessings. We say, “Life is good, and we are so blessed!”
PRAYER: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday:
These days Mary is celebrated in special feasts, the Assumption and the Queenship of Mary. Spend time today praying to or reading about Mary. Talk to your children or grandchildren about Mary.
Tuesday:
Singing is a form or part of celebration. Talk with your family about the singing in your church and your participation in it. Is your singing considered an integral part of the prayer of the Mass?
Wednesday:
Spend time today especially reflecting on the challenges and hardships for which you are now grateful. How have they turned out to be great blessings?
Thursday:
Mary was a woman of faith right from the moment of the Angel’s announcement that she would be the Mother of Jesus. What are the moments that you said “Yes” to God’s announcements in your life?
Friday:
Pray the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary today with your family.
Saturday:
Ephesians 5:16 tells us, “Make the most of the present opportunity…” Be open today to opportunities to express your faith.
PRAYER:
Father, we want to praise you with all our hearts and thank you for every moment you give us life. All that comes from you is a blessing. It is our eyes that are not clear enough to see this. Cure our blindness and give us happy, thankful hearts. Amen.
