“Father, … I have given you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.” (John 17:4)
READINGS:1. Acts 1:15-17, 20a, 20c-26
2. 1 John 4:11-16
3. Gospel John 17:6-19
REFLECTION: The Resurrection of Jesus takes place over and over again in the members of his Body and the Church. His risen life flows in and through his people and raises them up from death to life time and time again. Sometimes this rising is visible in individuals, sometimes in a group.
PRAYER: God our Father, make us joyful in the Ascension of your Son Jesus Christ. May we follow him into the new creation, for his ascension is our glory and our hope. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday:
By leaving and returning to the Father, Jesus leaves us responsible. Think today about what he bears us responsible for and how we fulfill his trust.
Tuesday:
Jesus has left us his peace. The bishops’ letter on peace says that true peace is something we have to work at, beginning with our own attitude. Pray at the family grace tonight that your family will continue to develop an attitude of true peace.
Wednesday:
Pray with the Family this evening the Glorious Mysteries of the rosary for peace in our world.
Thursday:
Give glory to God today as an individual or with your family, by doing something special for the needy.
Friday:
Give glory to God today by a thankful reflection on a beautiful work of creation in art, music, or science.
Saturday:
Enjoy today God’s creations in children. Do something with children today in which you enjoy them as they are—children.
PRAYER:
Father, help us to keep in mind that Christ our Savior lives with you in glory and promised to remain with us until the end of time. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
