8th Annual Pilgrimage to Ireland scheduled for August-September
![]() Father Peyton Centre in Attymass, County Mayo |
Join us on our 8th annual Pilgrimage to Ireland, from Aug. 29-Sept. 7, 2006, an exciting way to commemorate and celebrate the gift of prayer, especially that of the Rosary in our lives.
Servant of God Patrick Peyton, CSC, worked tirelessly to encourage the strengthening of families through the daily praying of the family Rosary. In Ireland we will once again visit the home parish of Father Peyton and the Father Peyton Centre in Attymass, County Mayo, which memorializes him. Mass will be celebrated each day, and the Rosary will be prayed on the bus as we explore the beauty of Ireland.
For more information, please call Susan Phalen at 800-299-7729 or view the itinerary.
Media and technology tradition continues
Father Peyton believed that Our Blessed Mother had brought about his miraculous healing from tuberculosis when he was a seminarian. In gratitude for his cure, he wished to bring honor and glory to Mary, but wondered how to reach the greatest number of people with his limited financial resources. He realized as early as the 1940s that the mass media would provide him with a tool to do just that and founded Family Theater Productions in 1947.
One of the first projects conducted by the new organization was the public service national billboard campaign in conjunction with outdoor advertising agencies. The underlying message of the campaign, The Family That Prays Together Stays Together, has become a household phrase to millions of Americans.

He took advantage of the benefits of technology as it became available to him: first radio, with “Family Theater of the Air”; the Family Theater television show, “The Triumphant Hour”; and the production of inspiring films, beginning with “Master, Savior, Redeemer.”
Consistent use of the mass media outlets throughout nearly 60 years has helped Holy Cross Family Ministries further the mission of Father Peyton.
The radio ministry continues through programs in Spanish and English airing on the EWTN Global Catholic Network-affiliated stations, Sirius Satellite Radio, and on independent stations throughout the country. Voz Latina: Radio for the Latino Explosion Spanish programming airs on the EWTN network, reaching North and Latin America, as well as on Sirius and 12 other stations across the country. Fifty-two digitally re-mastered Family Theater Classic Radio programs, which aired from 1947-1969, are now aired on EWTN, Sirius, and 25 stations across the country.
Family Theater Productions films are being shown on public television stations throughout the country and nationally on the Hallmark Channel, EWTN, Boston Catholic Television, Catholic Life Channel, along with other faith and values national outlets and several Catholic diocesan TV systems.
And our latest production, the documentary “God, Country, Notre Dame: The Story of Father Ted Hesburgh, CSC,” premiered last fall on the Hallmark Channel, receiving excellent reviews and winning the Telly Award.
To keep pace with technology as it develops and to continue to provide inspirational products for home viewing, many of the Family Theater Productions films produced in video to play on home VCRs are now available in DVD format.
Holy Cross Family Ministries continues Father Peyton’s strategy of utilizing cutting-edge technology to enhance the spiritual life of families.
In recent years, the widespread use of the Internet has provided an outlet for our message. Through our website, www.hcfm.org, visitors can learn about Rosary prayer; discover the history of Holy Cross Family Ministries; read about current ministries, including news from our international offices; browse our catalog and purchase products; and sign up to receive prayers and newsletters by email. The site has much useful faith information and links to other relevant sites. For example, the website of our most recent documentary, “God, Country, and Notre Dame: The Story of Father Ted Hesburgh, CSC,” (www.hesburgh.org) provides background information, a marketing outlet, and a study guide for viewing the film.
The popularity of Apple Computer Company’s iPod®, a hand held, portable listening device, has provided Holy Cross Family Ministries with another communication tool. Owners of iPods download music or other audio files from the Internet to their instruments to be listened to at a later time.
We are currently publishing audio files in various formats for iPod users. Father Willy Raymond, CSC, director of Family Theater Productions, created a few podcasts (http://coragio.blogspot.com/) to communicate his experiences at World Youth Day in Germany last summer. And the Voz Latina radio series, “La Historia de Quién Soy” is available for downloading on iTunes through Apple’s website.
The recent announcement of the new Playaway® technology has us very excited with a new avenue for communicating Father Peyton’s message of the importance of Rosary prayer. These self-playing audio devices weigh just six ounces with earphones, are the size of half a deck of cards, and come fully loaded and ready to use. Production is presently underway for the “Pray the Rosary with Servant of God Father Peyton, CSC” CD, and is available for purchase through the HCFM Store.
As we move forward into this new century, Holy Cross Family Ministries will continue to devote efforts to supporting and enhancing the spiritual lives of families through Rosary prayer, utilizing, as Father Peyton did, a blend of the old technologies and the new.
